Work experience and learning German in the Swiss mountains

Do you want to be part of a community of Christians from different nations, who encourage each other to put Christ at the center of their lives and to live out the gospel in down-to-earth ways? Being a part of our volunteering team is about living, working, serving, worshipping alongside each other and being open and honest with one another. It’s challenging but great fun too, and if you let it, it can be life-changing.
Are you looking for a place to volunteer in a Christian community and learn German? The “seminary for biblical theology” (sbt) is an evangelical bible seminary in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Up to 60 students from Switzerland, Germany, Austria and other European countries study for one year (discipleship program) or for 3 years in the bachelor program (Bachelor of Theology).
At our venue the sbt also runs a guesthouse (christian conference and holiday center) with 160 beds, 2 apartments, a youth cabin, and various meeting rooms. Groups and guests from all over the world come to enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Thun.
Being part of the sbt Team is about more than just working through daily tasks and routines. As a volunteer we would expect you to take an active part in the overall life of the campus, including prayer and other team events. As a volunteer you work for 42 hours per week. We provide accommodation and all your meals for free. And of course you will learn German by “learning by doing”.

The areas that you might volunteer in are:
Housekeeping
cleaning and preparing guest rooms and public areas for new guests
Kitchen
assisting in the cleaning of the kitchen, washing dishes, the general hygiene of the food preparation area, and helping in some basic food preparation
Dining Room
serving guests at two or three mealtimes each day and maintaining the efficient running of the dining room
Grounds Maintenance
maintaining our gardens and woodlands for the benefit and enjoyment of our guests
We welcome volunteers in our hotel, usually for a period of minimum 3 weeks and maximum 1 year. We are always looking for new volunteers to serve in a variety of different ways.
How about you?
We are looking for committed Christians with a personal faith in Christ, who want to serve the Lord cheerfully and enthusiastically. Your volunteering is valued as an essential part of the ministry of the sbt, and will hopefully be a way forward in building you up in the Christian faith, as well as supporting your personal development.
